Learn to Solve the Rubik’s Cube
Three short written guides for the first half of the layer-by-layer method. Read a guide, then practice the same moves on the 3D cube.
Where to start
If you have never solved a cube, start with notation. It takes ten minutes and every other guide uses it.
Then build the white cross, then finish the first layer. Take each stage slowly: a stage is done when you can repeat it from a scrambled cube without looking up the moves.
The layer-by-layer method at a glance
The 3×3 cube is solved in stages. The first three have written guides here:
- Learn the notation
- White cross on the bottom face
- White corners: the complete first layer
- Second layer edges
- Yellow cross on the top face
- Yellow corners: orient and position them
The simulator’s Learn tab also walks through the later stages as interactive exercises. Written guides for them are not available yet.
